The Boscov’s Challenge

Boscov’s, America’s largest family-owned department store in the Northeastern United States, has built its reputation on ingenuity, fairness, and a deep commitment to customer service. Founded in 1918, the retailer steadily expanded beyond its 52 brick-and-mortar locations by developing its own eCommerce operation, enabling customers nationwide to access Boscov’s broad assortment online.

As digital demand grew, Boscov’s relied on a legacy dropship provider to support its expanding vendor network. Over time, that solution proved limiting. While functional, it lacked the scalability, transparency, and flexibility the business needed to continue growing efficiently. The executive team began searching for a more comprehensive eCommerce platform that could support long-term expansion while giving the business greater control over its supplier ecosystem.

After evaluating several providers, Logicbroker quickly emerged as a leading contender. However, after initially entering the planning phase with another organization, Boscov’s lost valuable time navigating a prolonged and complex contract negotiation.

“We entered into the contract negotiation phase and everything was so cumbersome and confusing. We thought: ‘If this is tedious, I can’t imagine the rest of our partnership would go better,’” said Jennifer Redcay, Supplier Direct Fulfillment at Boscov’s. “Logicbroker is so consistent from start to finish. Everything is included in the negotiated price. Everything is just so easy.”

Beyond contract friction, Boscov’s faced a growing operational challenge: supplier onboarding had become increasingly manual and reactionary. Limited visibility into vendor status, testing progress, and unresolved order issues placed constant pressure on internal teams, making it difficult to scale without adding complexity.

A Workable Solution

With time already lost during the initial search process, Boscov’s approached Logicbroker while in the middle of a broader eCommerce migration. The timeline was aggressive. The team had just eight weeks to fully transition to a new platform and onboard vendors without disrupting ongoing operations.

Logicbroker accepted the challenge. Within weeks, Boscov’s successfully launched its primary connection on the Logicbroker platform. More than 70 percent of Boscov’s 250 vendors were onboarded early in the process, with the remaining suppliers quickly following as Logicbroker facilitated secure connections to Boscov’s new cloud-based dropship infrastructure.

“Logicbroker’s technology has modernized and streamlined this process, connecting us to our suppliers faster than ever and with a lower cost of ownership,” said Redcay. “We have better vendor management capabilities now, and with complete visibility of our digital supply chain, we are positioned for great scalable growth.”

As the partnership matured, Boscov’s adopted Logicbroker’s On-Demand Onboarding solution to further modernize and automate supplier onboarding. Instead of relying on manual coordination or third-party intervention, Boscov’s gained the ability to invite suppliers directly, monitor onboarding status in real time, review testing progress, and push vendors live when ready. Suppliers retained ownership of their onboarding tasks, while Boscov’s maintained full visibility and control.

On-Demand Onboarding completely changed how we work with suppliers. Instead of chasing status updates or managing everything manually, we can invite vendors, see exactly where they are in the process, review testing, and push them live when they’re ready. Our suppliers control their own onboarding, but we have full visibility and control. It’s streamlined, it’s scalable, and it’s taken a huge amount of pressure off our team.

A critical component of the migration was Logicbroker’s ability to match Boscov’s existing file formats and data requirements. Logicbroker assured Boscov’s IT team that no backend changes would be required, even contractually guaranteeing this flexibility. As a result, Boscov’s connected its systems to Logicbroker’s API seamlessly, without reformatting documents or losing historical data.

Promising Results

Today, Boscov’s operates with a level of transparency and confidence that was previously unattainable. Vendor inventory updates are reliable, documentation flows consistently, and internal teams have full visibility into supplier performance, orders, and exceptions, all without additional fees or administrative overhead.

Since going live with Logicbroker, Boscov’s has launched more than 100 vendors, accelerating assortment expansion while maintaining operational stability. By transitioning from a VAN-based connection to Logicbroker’s AS2 connections, Boscov’s eliminated unpredictable fees and significantly reduced monthly costs associated with legacy providers, saving thousands of dollars each month.

Perhaps most impactful has been the internal transformation. Prior to Logicbroker, unresolved order reports routinely contained hundreds of problematic transactions, some lingering for years. Today, those same reports often contain fewer than a dozen items, even during challenging months.

“We were constantly reactionary,” said Redcay. “I used to get reports and feel anxious. Now I love getting them. Everything about Logicbroker has been game changing. It enabled me to step away, and I can actually be more of a manager than I ever was.”

With operational friction removed, Boscov’s is now focused squarely on growth. The business continues working to expand dropshipping adoption across internal divisions, using Logicbroker not only as a technology provider, but as an educational partner helping teams modernize processes and embrace digital commerce best practices.

“Getting information from industry experts like Logicbroker is a game changer,” said Redcay. “It’s always about increasing sales and getting the entire company to embrace the process.”

That partnership extends beyond the platform itself.

“Carrie and everybody at Logicbroker is always a joy to work with,” Redcay added. “In every recommendation call I have for Logicbroker, one of the main points I try to get across is that the Logicbroker team is so accommodating. You don’t make anything difficult; your relationships, as well as your technology.”

By combining scalable technology, automated onboarding, and hands-on partnership, Logicbroker has helped Boscov’s move from a reactive operating model to a confident, growth-ready dropship program built for the future.
