When its legacy drop ship provider shut down, Gifts for Good had four months to migrate a highly customized supplier network without disrupting the unique impact tracking behind its corporate gifting model. Logicbroker helped rebuild that infrastructure while creating a more responsive onboarding and support experience for its cause partners.

Gifts for Good built its business on a simple premise that every corporate gift sold should support a nonprofit or social enterprise, with the impact behind it tracked and reported back to the client. The company works with a network of nonprofit and social enterprise cause partners, creating a supplier ecosystem that operates differently from a typical e-commerce marketplace.

By 2020, Gifts for Good had outgrown manual order processing and moved to an automated drop ship platform to keep pace with its growth. Over the next several years, the team built out a long list of customizations to make that platform match how their business actually worked.

Then the company running their drop ship program announced it was shutting down, giving Gifts for Good only four months to find a new home for its entire supplier operation.

What they needed was a technology partner flexible enough to support Gifts for Good’s unique business model and diverse network of smaller cause-forward partners with varying levels of technical infrastructure.

Gifts for Good found that partner in Logicbroker.

A Forced Migration

The tight timeline wasn’t the only complication. Gifts for Good had spent years customizing its previous platform around a business model that doesn’t fit neatly into standard drop ship logic.

“We had a number of things that were customized, and we were looking for a partner that could handle all the different ways we do business,” Jenise Steverding, Chief Impact/Operations Officer at Gifts for Good, said. “A lot of platforms don’t have flexibility. We use the shopify platform in a way that most other eCommerce stores do not; so we need a dropship order processor like Logicbroker who can keep up with our unique operations.“

Compounding the challenge, most of the company’s suppliers are small nonprofits and social enterprises with little to no internal IT support. Only one or two partners in the entire network have a dedicated IT team. Onboarding a supplier under the old, manual process was slow and error-prone under the best circumstances, and none of that would improve on a four-month deadline unless the new platform could make onboarding simpler for suppliers who had no technical staff to lean on.

Building a Platform Around the Business, Not the Other Way Around

Logicbroker emerged as the strongest long-term fit largely because of how the implementation started. Rather than fitting Gifts for Good into an out-of-the-box template, the teams worked through the company’s specific scenarios together.

“[Logicbroker] put a lot of thought and effort into how certain things would be done,” Jenise said. “We worked closely with the team to figure out how we could extract information out of the system, how we were going to capture everything in the way that we need it. Your team really spent a lot of time with us upfront going through scenarios on what was out of the box right away and what could be built.”

That same collaborative approach carried into onboarding suppliers who had no technical staff of their own. Logicbroker’s staging environment let Gifts for Good test each supplier’s setup before pushing it live, catching issues before they became order errors.

“Having instructions in staging is great,” Jenise said. “And having a person work closely with us who knows how our system works and is responsive with partners is huge. We meet every week, and Logicbroker helps us solve those issues.”

The transition brought a new level of support to the supplier experience, with dedicated onboarding guidance and more responsive support when issues arose.

A Support Relationship That Actually Responds

Today, most Gifts for Good suppliers connect through a Shopify integration, with a smaller number managed directly through the Logicbroker portal and orders routed through ShipStation for fulfillment. But when Jenise talks about what changed most in the switch to Logicbroker, it isn’t the platform itself.

The support that we get is by far the best part. The platform is easier to use than what we came off of, but the support is what stands out to me about switching. If I sent a support ticket, I am going to hear back, and I am going to hear back within 24 hours. Previously I felt on my own, and it was incredibly difficult to get someone on a call to help us.

Building a Network Big Enough to Match Their Standards

The company is actively looking for more partners in more locations that meet its impact standards, and Logicbroker’s expanded supplier network, grown further through its acquisition of Virtualstock, gives Gifts for Good a wider pool of vetted international organizations to draw from.

Nicole Evans, Director of Impact and Strategic Partnerships at Gifts for Good, sees that network as a differentiator worth building on. “There are companies that have impact as a component, but Gifts for Good is the only gifting company that is solely focused on impact at an organizational level,” Nicole said. “There is an opportunity to get aligned.”

That alignment could run in both directions: some suppliers already inside Logicbroker’s network could become Gifts for Good customers in their own right, an angle both companies are interested in exploring further as the partnership matures.
